Understanding WorkCover

About WorkCover Care

If you've been injured at work, your care is handled privately and paid for by your employer's insurance—not through Medicare. This means there is minimal out-of-pocket expenses, and you don't need a Medicare card for treatment. However, it also means the process can feel unfamiliar.

At Premier Health, we offer both treating roles—where we directly manage your recovery—and non-treating roles such as impairment assessments or surgical support. You'll always be informed of which type of care you're receiving.

Your Choice Matters

While your insurer or employer may suggest a provider, you're free to choose who treats you. Safe, unbiased care depends on your comfort with the practitioner.

Before your first appointment, we'll send you a secure online form to complete.

How it works

1. Report your injury

to your employer as soon as possible — this should be done in writing where possible.

2. Visit us or your local GP

to get an Initial WorkCover Certificate of Capacity — this confirms your injury and outlines any work restrictions.

3. Complete a Claim Form

and give it, along with your certificate, to your employer as soon as possible.

4. Your employer has 5 working days

to lodge your claim with their insurer. They must provide both the certificate and the claim form.

5. The insurer has 14 days

to decide whether to accept or dispute the claim. During this time, they may request additional information.

6. Book an appointment

with us for a full assessment, treatment planning, or review. (If urgent care is needed, you can still see us while the claim is pending.)

7. We coordinate your care

including specialist referrals, imaging, rehab planning, and regular reports for your insurer and employer.

8. You return to work

with support from our team — we'll guide you through modified duties, upgrades, and final clearance.

Billing and Claim Status

Premier Health is a privately billed clinic. If your WorkCover claim has already been accepted and you have a valid claim number, you will not have any out-of-pocket expenses—your insurer will cover the full cost of care.

If your claim is still pending or not yet lodged, you can still be seen promptly. In these situations, standard WorkCover WA rates apply and payment is required on the day. You may be able to claim reimbursement once your case is accepted.

If you're unsure about your claim status, we're happy to guide you through the next steps. Our team is experienced in supporting patients at all stages of the WorkCover process.
